This six week class is available to both digital and film photography students. It focuses on the nuances and special technicalities of and equipment required for close-up photography.

You should plan to bring your camera each week to class. Each class includes a lecture, an assignment and a group critique of the previous week’s assignment. In addition to shooting assignments outside of class, the fifth week of class includes a hand-on shooting workshop with the instructor.

You should plan about six hours each week for classes and shooting assignments, which is the equivalent of a “roll” of digital film (about 35-50 images on CD/DVD) or a 36-exposure roll of film for film photographers. Photo CDs/DVDs and photo prints from the previous week’s assignment should be brought to each class.

You must have completed at least Photo I or its equivalent to take Close-up Photography; you should be completely comfortable with controlling camera aperture and shutter speed.

  • Your 35mm SLR or digital SLR camera (DSLR) with a through-the-lens meter, adjustable shutter speeds and f-stops
